reminder: A walk-up win is a win in which the winning runs are scored in the bottom of the 8th inning.

* Walk-up win number 167 was the Mets 3rd walk-up win of the season and their second this month. The last was on July 11 against the Rockies (Damion Easley HR).

* Carlos Delgado got his first walk-up RBI since August 30, 2005, when he had a two-run go-ahead triple off Ray King in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Marlins a 6-5 lead against the Cardinals. The Marlins would win the game, 7-6.

* This was the 11th Mets walk-up win against the Phillies. They had one last year, April 9, 2007, in which the go-ahead run scored on Geoff Geary's 8th inning wild pitch.

* It was the first Mets walk-up win in which the go-ahead hit was a double since Roberto Alomar had a go-ahead double in the eighth inning against the Phillies on July 11, 2002.

* Oliver Perez had 12 strikeouts. Only 2 other Mets LEFTHANDERS have struck out 12+ Phillies in a game- Sid Fernandez (twice- 1985 and 1990) and Ray Sadecki (1970).

* The last time the Mets had a walk-up win by the score of 3-1 was July 13, 1991 against the Padres. David Cone struck out 13 that day, and the winning run came in via Mark Carreon's RBI single.

The truly first-place Mets fan knows...This walk-up win came on the anniversary of two WALK-OFF wins. The Mets got a walk-off win against the Dodgers on July 24, 1970, when Tommie Agee stole home to win. They also got a walk-off win against the Cardinals on July 24, 1984, when Keith Hernandez's single off Cardinals reliever Neil Allen gave the Mets a 9-8 win over St. Louis.

The best Mets ejections I know

When you think of the Mets and famous ejections, I'm guessing you first think of the famous Bobby Valentine mustache game, when after Valentine got tossed, he returned to the dugout in disguise. You know it. You love it. I remember being amused when I asked Bobby V about it while we were working on Baseball Tonight, how he simply said "It worked. We won the game." (true) But the Bobby V mustache game of June 9, 1999 is one of many, many memorable Mets ejection stories. And now thanks to Retrosheet and the magic of Newspapers.com , we have a convenient means for being able to share them. Ever since Retrosheet's David Smith recently announced that the Retrosheet ejection database was posted online , I've been a kid in a candy store. I've organized the data and done some lookups of media coverage around the games that interested me post. Those newspaper accounts fill in a lot of blanks. * Mets walk-off win #347 was the Mets 6th this season, against no defeats. This is the first time in Mets history that they've started a season with at least 6 walk-off wins before their first walk-off defeat. * It was Shawn Green's 2nd career walk-off home run, his first since September 20, 2001, when he homered in the 13th inning to beat Greg Swindell and the Diamondbacks, 3-2. It was the second walk-off home run allowed by Russ Springer, but his first since April 11, 2000, when Ed Sprague and the Padres beat him with a 13th inning home run. It was the first home run that Springer allowed all season. * This is the 5th time in Mets history that they've had as few as 3 hits and won a game in walk-off fashion.
