Everything's Coming So Easley These Days

Reminder: A Mets Walk-Up win is a win in which the Mets score the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. A walk-up home run or RBI is the one that gives the Mets the lead for good.

The term "walk-up" is an offshoot of walk-off and is used to describe the process of scoring to take the lead, and then walking up the dugout steps and back on to the field for the top of the 9th.

* Mets Walk-Up Win # 166 was the Mets second walk-up win of the season. It was their first since May 31, when they scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to beat the Dodgers, 3-2.

* The Mets have what you could call a walk-up imbalance. They have 7 walk-up wins against the Rockies, but only 4 walk-off wins against them. That's extremely unusual, considering that the Mets have more than twice as many walk-off wins (353) as walk-up wins (166).

* Damion Easley's last two home runs against the Rockies have been a game-tying home run in the bottom of the 10th on April 24, 2007, and a walk-up home run on July 11, 2008.

* Damion Easley's last five home runs have been tiebreaking home runs.

* The Mets last walk-up home run was hit by Moises Alou against the Braves on August 8, 2007.

* The Mets last walk-up home run WITH 2 OUTS also came against the Rockies. It was hit by Ty Wigginton on May 22, 2004.

* The Mets are the first team since the 1974 Orioles to allow three or fewer hits in four straight games. They've allowed three hits in EACH of their last four games.

* 9 walks ties the record for most walks allowed by Mets pitchers in a WALK-UP win. You'll remember well the other walk-up win in which Mets pitchers walked nine. It occurred on June 30, 2000, when the Mets scored 10 runs in the 8th inning, rallying from an 8-1 deficit to beat the Braves on Mike Piazza's three-run walk-up home run.

* Pedro Feliciano earned his second win this season, with both coming in games in which he pitched 1/3 of an inning.

... obviously if it's the second then the other was the first! We'd prefer to say "The other came" etc. etc. back at my old paper.

While we're on the topic of corrections... The Mets actually scored 3 in the 8th to win 3-2.

The best Mets ejections I know

When you think of the Mets and famous ejections, I'm guessing you first think of the famous Bobby Valentine mustache game, when after Valentine got tossed, he returned to the dugout in disguise. You know it. You love it. I remember being amused when I asked Bobby V about it while we were working on Baseball Tonight, how he simply said "It worked. We won the game." (true) But the Bobby V mustache game of June 9, 1999 is one of many, many memorable Mets ejection stories. And now thanks to Retrosheet and the magic of Newspapers.com , we have a convenient means for being able to share them. Ever since Retrosheet's David Smith recently announced that the Retrosheet ejection database was posted online , I've been a kid in a candy store. I've organized the data and done some lookups of media coverage around the games that interested me post. Those newspaper accounts fill in a lot of blanks. Without further ado (and with more work to do), here are some of my findings

Walk-Offs in Movies, TV, and Other Places

Note: I'm leaving this post up through the end of the week, a) because I don't have time to pump out something new and b)because I was hoping to build a really good list of entertainment industry walk-offs...so if you're looking for something new, check back on Monday or so... Of course, if there's a major trade or move, I'll adjust and try to post something... In the meantime, click on the "Table of Contents" link as well. It has been updated. SPOILER ALERT: Read at your own risk Caught the ending of "A League of Their Own" on one of the movie channels the other day and it got me to thinking that it would be fun to compile a list of walk-offs from movies, television, and other forms of entertainment. Here's the start, and only the start, as I spent about 30 minutes or so thinking it over Help me fill in the blanks by filling out the comments section.
